Bulawayo Stars Unite to Launch Mr and Miss Khaya Arts Pageant: A New Era for Youth Talent

Bulawayo’s creative scene is gearing up for a major cultural milestone as beloved local artistes Madlela Skhobokhobo, Bhila, and Mzoe 7 rally behind the debut of the Mr and Miss Khaya Arts pageant — a vibrant new modelling competition spearheaded by the renowned dance ensemble, Khaya Arts.
Set to take place on June 13 at the Khaya Arts Centre in Tshabalala, the inaugural event promises a dynamic blend of fashion, performance, and entertainment, spotlighting young talent between the ages of 17 and 25. The competition is designed to offer aspiring models and performers a stepping stone into the broader creative industry, while celebrating Bulawayo’s rich artistic culture.
Adding to the excitement, the night will feature energetic performances from Khaya Arts themselves, alongside a high-powered musical lineup that includes Madlela Skhobokhobo, Bhila, Mzoe 7, and Mlandi Wetshitshi. Hosting duties will be in the capable hands of the charismatic duo Vicky and Umahlabayithwale, who are expected to keep the crowd engaged throughout the evening.
Speaking on the event’s development, Khaya Arts founder and director Future Dube shared his enthusiasm:
“We’re excited that it’s coming together bit by bit. A lot of companies are coming on board to support the project, and we’re grateful. It’s shaping up to be a big and memorable first edition.”
The pageant signals a fresh chapter for Khaya Arts, traditionally known for their captivating dance performances. With this initiative, the group is expanding into fashion and modelling, aiming to empower youth and promote inclusivity in Bulawayo’s cultural industries.
The Mr and Miss Khaya Arts pageant isn’t just about crowning winners—it’s about creating opportunities, nurturing ambition, and amplifying the voices of young creatives. With strong backing from some of the city’s most influential performers and growing corporate interest, the event is poised to become a new cornerstone in Zimbabwe’s arts calendar.
As the countdown begins, anticipation is building across the city. For Bulawayo’s youth, this could be the platform that launches dreams into reality.
