Everton Mlalazi’s Birthday Ignites a Gospel Earthquake in Bulawayo at Ekhaya Music Festival

What began as a birthday celebration for gospel star Everton Mlalazi turned into a spiritual earthquake in Bulawayo, as over 8,000 gospel lovers filled the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre for the inaugural Ekhaya Music Festival. Held on Africa Day, the event was more than a concert—it was a powerful fusion of worship, wellness, and community spirit, and Mlalazi couldn’t be more thankful.
“Bulawayo, your support humbled me. Thank you, ngiyabonga,” Mlalazi shared on his official Facebook page following the event’s phenomenal turnout and energy.
The day began with a free health expo, where attendees received medical checkups and free medication, reflecting the festival’s broader vision of holistic upliftment. As the sun dipped and the stage lights rose, the venue transformed into a sanctuary of praise, with a thunderous lineup of gospel heavyweights delivering one unforgettable performance after another.
South Africa’s gospel royalty—Canaan Nyathi, Omega Khunou, Xolisa Kwinana, and Sbu Noah of Joyous Celebration—set the stage ablaze. They were joined by the powerful voices of Once More Six, Reality 7, Takesure Zamar Ncube, and Mkhululi Bhebhe, creating an electric atmosphere that had the crowd on their feet all night.
Zimbabwe’s own stars were equally up to the task. Mai Mwamuka, Pastor Barak, Lorraine Maplanka, Vusa Mangena, Conquerors Afrika, Vocal Ex, Revealed, Snowy, and VOP Music brought unmatched passion and energy, proving that Bulawayo’s gospel scene is as vibrant and spirit-filled as ever.
Speaking during the festival, Mlalazi shared his vision for Ekhaya as more than just an annual gathering. “We worked with several partners and companies. The health expo was a blessing. People were checked and received free medication,” he said. “This is a festival that will grow, bringing investment, hope, and opportunities to the people of Bulawayo.”
And with such an overwhelming response, grow it certainly will. Organisers are already eyeing an outdoor summer edition for next year to accommodate even bigger crowds. The debut festival has laid a solid foundation for what could become one of Zimbabwe’s premier gospel events.
From spirit-lifting music to life-saving medical services, the Ekhaya Music Festival delivered on every front. And Everton Mlalazi is not slowing down—he’s now headed to the UK, where he’ll join Takesure Zamar, Snowy, and Canaan Nyathi for The Grateful Experience in Birmingham this weekend.
Bulawayo showed up in full force. Mlalazi delivered with heart and purpose. And with the gospel wave now swelling beyond borders, the Ekhaya Festival is just getting started.
