Fusion 5 Mangwiro and Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana to Headline Legal Seminar on Marriage and Inheritance in Zimbabwe

Renowned Zimbabwean musicians Fusion 5 Mangwiro and jazz icon Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana will headline a special seminar that seeks to shed light on the country’s evolving laws on marriage, property rights, and inheritance. The event, titled Marriage Act and Inheritance Laws: Myths and Facts, will take place at the Celebration Centre in Borrowdale, Harare, on July 15 and 17.

Fusion 5 Mangwiro, supported by Breeze Music, is scheduled to perform on the opening night, adding a vibrant musical experience to the informative sessions. On the final evening, Katomeni-Mbofana will bring the seminar to a close with a captivating jazz performance. The seminar promises a unique blend of legal education and top-tier entertainment, designed to make the learning experience engaging and memorable.

Organised by Vastek Africa and led by prominent lawyer Nyaradzo Maphosa, widely known as Advovo Wabantu, the two-day event is geared toward demystifying the country’s reformed marriage and inheritance laws. Maphosa said the seminar will tackle widespread misconceptions and answer the questions many Zimbabweans have struggled with for years.

“These sessions are designed to provide clarity on pressing legal questions,” said Maphosa. “Do ‘small houses’ now have legal rights? Can one claim damages for adultery? Has lobola been abolished? Who owns the house, stand or car once married? Is it wise to register property in children’s names? Is a trust better than a will? And what exactly constitutes a civil partnership under the new Marriages Act?”

The seminar will be hosted by former model and media personality Brita Masalethulini, and will run from 6pm to 8pm on both days. According to the organisers, this event is essential for couples, aspiring homeowners, legal enthusiasts, and anyone keen to understand their rights and obligations under Zimbabwe’s revised marital and inheritance laws.

With the combination of legal expertise and musical artistry, the event is expected to attract a wide audience and create an accessible platform for legal awareness and empowerment.
