CeCe Winans Delivers Spirit-Filled “More Than This” Show in Harare

CeCe Winans’ More Than This show at the Celebration Centre in Harare was more than a concert; it was a spiritual experience, a masterclass in ministry through music, and a celebration of faith and identity. The legendary gospel singer combined powerful vocals, heartfelt preaching, and soulful storytelling to create a worship atmosphere that transcended the stage.

The evening opened with an anointed ministry from Ezekiel Paul, setting the tone for the More Than This quest and desire, culminating in a powerful declaration of faith. The performance was followed by a tribute to women leaders in worship and ministry, featuring CeCe, Rorisang Thandekiso, Bonnie Deuschle, and Janet Manyowa. Each showcased stories of resilience, devotion, and leadership, illustrating what it means to serve and sing with purpose.

CeCe’s arrival in Harare was met with exuberance at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport. Fans and members of Hear the Word Church welcomed her with songs, smiles, and flowers, creating a worshipful environment even before the concert began. Her Harare stop followed a successful South African tour with packed shows in Randburg and Cape Town, featuring guest appearances from gospel artists HLE and Ntokozo Mbambo, with Thandekiso hosting.

Thandekiso, a seasoned broadcaster and inspirational media personality, returned as host for the Harare concert. She led prayers, sang, and engaged the audience with her trademark energy and humor, bridging the stage and the congregation seamlessly.

The night featured powerful performances from Deuschle and Manyowa. Manyowa preached through songs like Yahweh, Makafanirwa Kunamata, and Mwari Kana Mataura Shoko Renyu in Shona, uniting the house in worship. Deuschle and the Celebration Choir opened with a new composition, Siyakubabaza Nqgwele baba Uidwala Nkosi, and displayed banners with Hebrew names of God, including Yahweh, Shalom, Nissi, Elohim, and Rapha, symbolizing peace, protection, and providence.

Despite minor technical issues, the congregation remained fully engaged, singing along and participating in worship rather than focusing on celebrity appearances.

CeCe Winans then took the stage with a distinctive blend of gospel, soul, and contemporary Christian music. She opened with a heartfelt declaration: “We didn’t come for a performance and we are desperate for your presence!” From her classic Alone in His Presence (1995) to her recent More Than This (2024), her songs carried messages of hope, healing, and divine purpose. The congregation responded enthusiastically, joining in prayer, confession, and worship.

The More Than This show in Harare highlighted the transformative power of gospel music, leaving attendees spiritually uplifted and inspired. CeCe Winans reaffirmed her role as a leading voice in gospel ministry, proving that music can be both worship and a message of enduring faith.
