Alick Macheso Teases New Collaboration with Freeman After Kadoma Music Festival

Sungura kingpin Alick Macheso has hinted at another musical collaboration with Zimbabwean chanter Freeman following their electrifying performance at the Kadoma Music Festival. The duo shared the stage with Jamaican artists Busy Signal and Chris Martin, alongside local stars Winky D, Feli Nandi, Julian King, Qounfused, and Kurai Makore.
Freeman set the tone for his performance with his hit “Ngaibake,” captivating fans from the start. After the show, Macheso revealed plans to return to the studio with Freeman. “Freeman ndichamutsvaga futi pamberi ipapa tipinde mustudio, pane zvandakamurongera mukomana iyeyu,” Macheso said as he left the stage.
Fans have reacted with excitement, suggesting the on-stage chemistry may have reignited Macheso’s passion for collaboration. Before the duet, Macheso delivered a refined set, demonstrating his signature polished performance.
Freeman has previously praised their partnership, calling their earlier collaboration “one of the best ever.” In a 2019 interview with The Sunday Mail, he said, “Without collaborating with Mudhara (Macheso), ‘Ngaibake’ was not going to be as popular as it has been.” The track, from Freeman’s 10-track album Gango, has accumulated 6.4 million views on YouTube since its release six years ago.
The song has won multiple awards, including the Zimbabwe Music Awards for Best Music Video of the Year, Star FM Awards People’s Choice, and a top 50 ranking in the ZBC TV Awards.
Freeman will celebrate the second edition of his HKD Music Festival on October 25 at Glamis Arena. The event will feature performances from Killer T, Feli Nandi, Seh Calaz, Voltz JT, Delroy Shewe, Baba Harare, Nutty O, and Atenda Chinx. The festival promises to be a major celebration of Zimbabwean music and a showcase of Freeman’s continued influence in the industry.
Macheso’s renewed collaboration plans signal more exciting projects for fans, cementing both artists’ status as leaders in Zimbabwe’s music scene.
