Gesh Keeps Mampintsha’s Legacy Alive with Annual All White Party Tribute

This year marks three years since the passing of Gqom and Kwaito icon Mampintsha, born Mandla Maphumulo. His close friend and music promoter Marshall “Gesh” Mpofu has turned grief into purpose by committing to honour his legacy every year. He does this through an annual All White Party held in Mampintsha’s memory.
Since 2022, the Gesh23 Productions boss has marked the anniversary by celebrating Mampintsha’s life through music. The tribute takes place at Mpofu’s Something 23 Tshisanyama joint, where Mampintsha’s sound fills the space. The tradition continues this Christmas Eve, promising fans a night rooted in Durban music and shared memories.
This year’s All White Party will be headlined by Dumi the DJ, with support from DJs Banda, Fatsi, Nico and Koro. Mpofu said the event is about joy, remembrance and respect for a friend who shaped a movement. He promised lovers of Shimora, one of Mampintsha’s nicknames, a night of pure celebration.
“I grew up with Mampintsha, Danger and Bhar, and we were very close as brothers,” Mpofu said. He explained that missing the funeral left a gap he now fills by celebrating Mampintsha’s life through music. He added that playing Durban music all night is his way of honouring the bond they shared.
Mpofu also reflected on their early days in the industry and the birth of Afrotainment. He recalled a time when they were hungry at Times Square and met Keith, also known as Why Not, a taxi owner with a vision. Keith offered to buy them food in exchange for their commitment to music, which later led to the formation of Afrotainment with DJ Tira.
He shared another memory from a Big Nuz tour in Harare that still makes him smile. Mampintsha worried about security, took their room keys and later lost his wallet. The group ended up sleeping at the reception, turning a stressful moment into a lasting joke and a cherished memory.
Over the years, Mpofu has built a reputation for bringing top South African artists to Bulawayo. His strong industry relationships come from loyalty and support shown to many artists during their rise. That respect continues to open doors for his events.
Mampintsha and Big Nuz reshaped Kwaito and Gqom, leaving a mark that remains unmatched. The All White Party stands as a reminder of that impact. It also reflects the commitment of friends like Marshall “Gesh” Mpofu to ensure the music and spirit of Mampintsha never fade.
