Flatter Zenda: Expanding Zimbabwean Art Horizons Locally and Abroad

Germany-based visual artist Flatter Zenda is set to broaden his impact in 2026 by supporting emerging talent both in Zimbabwe and internationally. Motivated by the untapped potential in the art scene, he aims to create platforms where young artists can develop, showcase their work, and gain recognition.

Flatter will launch ArtGao Online in Hamburg and Zimbabwe, a digital initiative designed to empower new talent. The platform will provide artists with exposure, mentorship, and opportunities to connect with collectors and art enthusiasts. “We’re looking forward to nurturing new artists, diving into fresh art business angles, and supporting talented youth through community projects,” Flatter said in an interview with Zimpapers. He emphasised that the initiative is guided by faith and a commitment to giving back.

Reflecting on his achievements in the past year, Flatter highlighted personal, spiritual, and professional growth. He travelled, expanded his ventures, and embraced learning experiences that prepared him for new challenges. “Last year was about opening fresh chapters in my business and personal life, embracing learning curves, and really setting the stage for the future,” he said.

Exhibiting alongside his brother, Keith Zenda, has been a defining aspect of his career. The siblings bring Zimbabwean heritage and personal stories to international audiences, particularly in Europe. “Sharing this platform feels both humbling and fulfilling. Our art carries not only our personal stories but also the heritage and spirit of Zimbabwe,” Flatter explained. He emphasised the importance of representing multiple generations of Zimbabwean artists, showing younger creatives that their voices have a place in global art conversations.

Flatter’s work has contributed to marketing Zimbabwean visual art abroad. Collaborations with the National Gallery of Zimbabwe have opened opportunities for artists who often feel overlooked locally. Through his projects, Flatter has also promoted community and rural development. Notable works include Children at Play (textured oil on canvas), Let Hope Lead (community art project, Hamburg), Echoes of Heritage (mixed media, Hamburg, 2025), The Ties That Bind Us (mixed media, 2025), and Celebration Live Painting (KVHS Amerland).

Children at Play reflects Flatter’s childhood in rural Zimbabwe. The painting captures boys rolling tires with joy and energy, celebrating freedom, community, and the creativity of play. It serves as a nostalgic reminder that happiness often comes from simple, shared moments.

With ArtGao Online and ongoing exhibitions, Flatter Zenda is setting a precedent for Zimbabwean artists, proving that local talent can thrive globally while nurturing the next generation of creatives. His work continues to highlight the richness of Zimbabwean culture and inspire young artists to pursue their visions with confidence.
