Dream Hous Pictures Academy to Celebrate Ninth Graduation with Powerful Short Film Showcase

Harare-based film institution, Dream Hous Pictures Academy, is set to host its ninth graduation ceremony on January 31 at Ster Kinekor Cinema, Joina City. The milestone event will celebrate a new generation of Zimbabwean filmmakers prepared to make their mark on both local and international screens. Twelve students who completed the Academy’s intensive four-month professional training programme will graduate, having studied Cinematography, Scriptwriting, Directing, Producing, and Film Acting.

The graduates will premiere eight original short films, all collaboratively produced as part of their course requirements. These films highlight teamwork, creativity, and industry-level discipline. Among the standout projects is Nowhere Girl, facilitated by the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe and directed by Jonathan Samkange, also known as Dyrekta O. The gripping drama, inspired by real-life events, follows 11-year-old Ishe, who runs away after a car accident leaves her mother presumed dead. Lost and vulnerable, Ishe falls under the control of Gogo, a manipulative woman who forces her to beg on the streets.

Unknown to Ishe, her mother Chennai survives the accident after a six-month coma. Determined, Chennai navigates the city’s underbelly to find her daughter, culminating in a tense and emotionally charged reunion that explores resilience, family, and hope. The film exemplifies Dream Hous Pictures Academy’s commitment to storytelling that blends authenticity, technical precision, and emotional depth.

Beyond showcasing cinematic talent, the graduation highlights film’s role in youth empowerment and economic development. Training at Dream Hous equips young people with storytelling, technical, and entrepreneurial skills, enabling self-expression while creating opportunities across production, distribution, and the wider creative industry. As Zimbabwe’s creative economy grows, film remains a powerful vehicle for cultural identity, social dialogue, and economic resilience.

Jonathan Samkange noted that the Academy, which has produced nearly 200 graduates, continues to earn respect within Zimbabwe’s film industry and abroad. “I invite parents, friends, and film lovers to join us on January 31 to experience eight powerful films shaped by our Hollywood Film Academy philosophy, where passion meets precision,” he said.

Dream Hous Pictures Academy also acknowledged the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe for its ongoing support in nurturing creativity and amplifying young voices. Samkange shared several guiding principles from the Hollywood Film Academy, emphasizing that film is not only entertainment but a vehicle for memory, identity, economy, and giving young people a voice the world can hear.

The ninth graduation ceremony promises a celebration of talent, discipline, and the transformative power of filmmaking, as Zimbabwe’s next generation of storytellers takes the stage.
