Zimbabwean Dendera musician Tryson Chimbetu has released his highly anticipated single, “Tuta,” a project he says took 13 years to complete. The song officially launched last week and is already generating excitement among fans of traditional Dendera music. Listeners have praised its infectious rhythm and powerful brass instrumentation, which hark back to the classic sounds of the genre while introducing fresh energy. The release marks a significant step for Tryson in reconnecting with his fan base and reaffirming the relevance of Dendera music in contemporary Zimbabwean culture. Social media reactions have highlighted both the production quality and Tryson’s distinct vocal delivery, showing the single’s early impact on audiences.

Tryson described “Tuta” as a milestone in reviving traditional Dendera music. Speaking to H-Metro, he explained that he began writing the song in 2013 and completed it in 2026, making it a culmination of over a decade of creative effort. The single features guitar work from Tryson and his son-in-law Saiwe, alongside production by Charles Ibeki. Tryson emphasized that this song is just a preview of his eighth album, which is expected to bring more traditional Dendera tracks to fans. The release demonstrates his commitment to preserving Zimbabwe’s musical heritage while innovating within the genre.

The song is further elevated by contributions from veteran saxophonist Philip Svosve, who is celebrated as a key figure in Zimbabwean brass music. Tryson highlighted Svosve’s legacy, noting his past collaborations with legends like Thomas Mapfumo and the Blacks Unlimited, James Chimombe, and Safiriyo Madzikatire Mukadota. The brass additions have been described as a thrilling complement to the song’s structure, giving it a layered and dynamic sound. This collaboration not only strengthens the song’s musical depth but also connects the contemporary release to the golden era of Zimbabwean Dendera and brass music. Fans have remarked on how the instrumentation enhances Tryson’s signature vocal style.

The response from listeners has been overwhelmingly positive. Social media users have commended both the technical quality and emotional appeal of “Tuta.” Hugh BaAndre Chinhengo praised the saxophone, calling the song well balanced, while Tungamirah Tungah admitted to replaying it multiple times. Johane Nyandoro declared it the “Song of the Year,” and Michael Innocent Nyamutambo celebrated Tryson’s performance. Other fans, including Lawrence Mopao Mukonzi and Frances Nyatsanga, offered brief but enthusiastic endorsements, showing widespread approval across different audience segments. These reactions underline the song’s resonance with both long-time Dendera enthusiasts and newer listeners.

Tryson’s management team, led by journalist and arts strategist Takawira Photoveteran Unlimited Nyashanu Dapi, played a key role in coordinating the release. Dapi praised everyone who supported Tryson throughout his career and highlighted the influence of sungura legend Alick Macheso, who has guided Tryson since his early days. This combination of strong mentorship, skilled collaborators, and years of creative investment has positioned “Tuta” as a standout single in the current Zimbabwean music scene. With the upcoming eighth album on the horizon, Tryson Chimbetu’s dedication to Dendera music is set to reach a wider audience and continue shaping the genre’s legacy.
