Andy Muridzo Expresses Gratitude as Corporate Support Strengthens His Music Career

Andy Muridzo has shared his appreciation for continued corporate backing in his music career, saying he feels humbled that major organisations still show interest in his work despite years of public criticism and negative headlines. The 33-year-old Jeetaz Band leader says the support proves that his artistic journey remains valued in Zimbabwe’s entertainment industry. His comments come at a time when he continues to perform at major cultural events and festivals across the country. He believes the recognition from institutions such as the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe Traditional Dancers Association reinforces his commitment to his craft. For him, the encouragement signals that his career is still growing even after facing public scrutiny.

Muridzo has often found himself in the spotlight for both his music and controversies that followed his rise to fame. Despite this, he maintains that his focus remains on delivering music and representing Zimbabwean culture. He says negative narratives have followed him like a shadow, but they have not stopped his progress in the industry. Instead, he views ongoing opportunities as proof that his work still resonates with organisers and audiences. He has repeatedly stated that his passion for music is the driving force behind his persistence.

Over the weekend, Muridzo performed at the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival for Harare Province held at Werras Gardens. The event brought together various traditional dance groups competing in a celebrated national programme. His performance added a musical element to a festival that continues to promote Zimbabwe’s cultural heritage. He praised organisers for maintaining platforms that give artists and cultural groups space to showcase their talent. He also expressed pride in being associated with initiatives that preserve traditional identity through performance and music.

Muridzo said he values the trust shown by organisations such as NACZ and ZNTDA, especially during periods when public perception has been challenging. He described the opportunity to perform at culturally significant events as more than just a career milestone. According to him, it represents recognition of his artistic identity and contribution to Zimbabwean music. He also emphasized that he remains committed to leading by example in his personal and professional life. His message focused on growth, discipline, and responsibility as an artist in the public eye.

He further expressed strong support for cultural preservation efforts led by organisations involved in traditional arts. Muridzo highlighted the importance of festivals like Chibuku Neshamwari in keeping Zimbabwe’s cultural practices alive. He said he appreciates being part of a system that celebrates traditional dance and music on a national scale. His remarks showed alignment with the broader goal of promoting cultural pride among younger generations. He also reaffirmed his identity as both a musician and a supporter of Zimbabwe’s heritage.

This year’s edition of the festival is running under the theme “Ngoma Ngairire Shamwari, Tshay’sgubhu Mngane,” which encourages unity through cultural expression. Provincial competitions began on May 9 and are set to conclude on July 11. Winning groups receive structured prize money, with US$2,500 for first place at provincial level, US$1,500 for second, and US$1,000 for third. At national level, the top prize stands at US$15,000, followed by US$10,000 for first runner-up and US$7,500 for second runner-up. Organisers say the competition not only rewards talent but also strengthens cultural participation across the country.

Delta Beverages, the main sponsors of the festival, have also received praise for their continued investment in the arts sector. Their support has helped sustain one of Zimbabwe’s most recognised traditional dance platforms over the years. Organisers have encouraged winning groups to use their prize money responsibly and invest in long-term development. The festival continues to attract strong participation from across provinces, building anticipation for the national finals. Muridzo’s involvement adds visibility to the event and connects contemporary music with traditional performance spaces.

Andy Muridzo’s response to ongoing corporate interest reflects an artist who remains focused on longevity rather than public criticism. His participation in cultural festivals and support for traditional initiatives show a consistent effort to stay relevant in Zimbabwe’s evolving music scene. Despite challenges, he continues to secure platforms that keep him active and visible in the industry. His message of gratitude highlights a career shaped by resilience, persistence, and continued opportunity.
