A top legislator has turned to the ancestors for deliverance from the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and called on the nation to seek spiritual help.Killer Zivhu who is a member of the ruling Zanu PF party and member of parliament for Chivi South posted a video of himself on social media holding snuff and kneeling with a pot of traditional beer under a Hissing tree (Muhacha).
The stance taken by the legislator comes barely a few weeks after government announced that it was giving the green light to traditional leaders to use their herbal medicine to cure the corona virus. The virus has caused hundreds of thousands of deaths worldwide with the USA having the highest death rate of over 20 000 people
Zivhu appealed to Zimbabweans to turn to their traditions and religions in the same way he has done. Zivhu calls on people to call on the ancestors to protect and deliver them from the coronavirus in the same way they protected the people during the war of liberation which lead to Zimbabwe gaining its independence in 1980.
The Hissing tree is often referred to as ‘muti wevadzimu’ (the tree of the ancestors) by traditionalists and is believed to be the domicile of the ancestral spirits, under which prayers were offered. The hissing tree was generally designated and used for spiritual offerings and supplication.
Zivhu also called on none traditionalists and traditionalists alike to follow the dictates of whatever they believe in and pray for deliverance from the coronavirus pandemic.A few weeks back, the Zimbabwean government authorised traditional healers to treat the coronavirus using traditional herbs on a patient consent basis
