Air Force Zimbabwe Appoints First Female Air Commodore Ever
Air Force Zimbabwe has appointed its first ever female Air Commodore, 48 year old Ellen Chiweshe which is the third highest rank in Zimbabwe’s Air Force.
Chiweshe was promoted from group captain to Air Commodore becoming the highest ranking female in Zimbabwe’s Air Force.
Air Marshal Perence Shiri encouraged more women to work hard to attain high ranks in the Air Force of Zimbabwe saying, “sky is the limit for females in the air force”.
“It was very tough as the military is dominated by male officers and it is through hard work. I am very happy that the system has recognized me”, she said.
Air Commodore Chiweshe joined the AFZ in 1988 and was promoted to the rank of Group Captain and then in 2009 was appointed director of finance.
