Insimbi ZeZhwane Manager Bahlanu Sagqumo Sibanda Donates Soccer Kit to Sasedza Primary School in Tsholotsho

Sasedza Primary School in Tsholotsho District, Matabeleland North Province, has received a significant boost to its sports program thanks to a heartfelt donation from Bahlanu Sagqumo Sibanda, the South Africa-based manager of the popular Insimbi ZeZhwane band. Sibanda, a proud former learner of the school, handed over a full soccer kit to the school on Friday.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Sibanda shared that the donation was his way of giving back to the institution that laid the foundation for his life journey. “Growing up, I used to love sports, but we didn’t have the proper attire to participate,” he recalled. “I remember when I was in Grade Six, donors from England visited our school and asked us to write down what we wished for the school. I wrote about needing soccer kits and balls, but unfortunately, those donors never returned. This donation is a fulfilment of that childhood dream.”
Sibanda’s gesture has not only brought joy to the learners but has also revived memories of resilience and hope. The learners, who often played matches wearing their school uniforms or bare-chested to differentiate teams, now have proper gear to proudly represent their school during ball games and competitions.
The multi-talented manager also presented a soccer ball to the school as part of the donation, further enhancing the learners’ ability to practice and enjoy the sport. Sibanda urged others from the community and former students to support their old schools in any way they can, stressing that small contributions can make a big difference in developing schools in rural areas.
“We must love our communities where we come from,” Sibanda said. “Seeing the school authorities and the boys smile after receiving the donation was fulfilling. I hope that in the next coming years, we will see soccer players emerging from rural schools like Sasedza because there is so much untapped talent.”
Tsholotsho District, known for producing sports stars like Joel “Dubai” Luphahla, the current Simba Bora coach, continues to nurture young talent. Sibanda’s contribution adds to the growing efforts to support sports development in the region and inspire the next generation of athletes.
The donation has not only equipped the learners with proper sporting gear but has also rekindled hope that more successful individuals from the community will follow Sibanda’s example in supporting grassroots development.
