Matapi flats refurbished

The government in collaboration with the ministry of local government embarked on a project to revamp Matapi flats. The building was so delapidated and old such that one would have thought it was about to fall down and crumble. The intervention by the government saw the structure being given a new lease of life. The flats now stand as one of the most beautiful buildings in Mbare.

Residents were full of gratitude to the government for taking such an initiative. Deputy minister of local government Jennifer Mhlanga said the ministry was committed to the total revamping of such structures so that people can live in better shelter.

This seems to suggest that similar future projects are on the cards. Matapi flats is home to scores of people most of whom partake in small business activities in Mbare. If such renovations are carried forward Mbare is certainly set to be transformed.

Matapi is also known as a hub af activity in Zimdancehall circles. This is where the notorious Chillspot records is located. Most zimdancehall artists also originate from Matapi flats and some other areas in Mbare.
