Old Mutual Donates 250 Blankets to Mpilo Hospital in Annual Winter Warmer Campaign

Old Mutual Zimbabwe has reaffirmed its commitment to social responsibility with a generous donation of 250 blankets to Mpilo Hospital in Bulawayo, as part of its ongoing Winter Warmer Expo Campaign. The annual initiative is designed to bring comfort and relief to patients and caregivers during Zimbabwe’s coldest months.
The donation comes at a crucial time as temperatures continue to drop across the country, placing additional strain on already stretched health institutions. The blankets, delivered with heartfelt messages of care and solidarity, aim to offer warmth and dignity to some of the most vulnerable members of the community.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Old Mutual Operations Manager Gladys Bugalo highlighted the company’s deep-rooted values of community service, compassion, and integrity.
“Today, as we witness the impact of this collective effort, we are reminded of the power we hold when we come together to serve,” Bugalo said. “We hope these blankets bring comfort as a reminder that you matter to us.”
The Winter Warmer Campaign is one of Old Mutual’s flagship community outreach programmes, focusing on providing essential winter support to hospitals, homes, and care centres across Zimbabwe. Institutions are nominated through a transparent and inclusive process involving Old Mutual employees and members of the public via digital platforms.
This year, Mpilo Hospital was among the key beneficiaries, alongside Jairos Jiri and other institutions across all ten provinces.
Bugalo emphasized that the donation is more than a corporate gesture—it reflects Old Mutual’s fundamental belief in people, community, and empathy.
“Each blanket symbolizes our values of respect, integrity, and accountability. We bring these values to Mpilo Hospital, a place that embodies compassion, resilience, and community spirit,” she said.
“To the caregivers and patients: you are seen, you are valued, you are not alone.”
Receiving the donation on behalf of the hospital, Mpilo Hospital Chief Medical Officer Dr Narcusicus Dzanga expressed sincere appreciation, stating that the blankets would go a long way in easing the burden on healthcare workers and supporting patients through winter.
“We are so grateful that a company like Old Mutual has come to support us with blankets. No donation is too big or too small,” Dr Dzanga said. “Blankets are essential during this time of year, but they are often in short supply. This donation is incredibly timely and meaningful.”
Beyond offering physical warmth, the Winter Warmer Campaign is a symbol of solidarity, reminding communities that they are not forgotten. Old Mutual continues to demonstrate leadership in corporate citizenship, reinforcing its role as a trusted and compassionate partner in Zimbabwe’s development.
As winter tightens its grip, initiatives like the Winter Warmer Campaign are a beacon of hope, ensuring that no one is left to face the cold alone.
