People reach out to cyclone victims

As the nation is still reeling from the shock of the devastating effects of cyclone Idai, a lot of people have shown care and contributed several items to assist the victims of the natural disaster. Groups of people including celebrities, churches, humanitarian organizations and ordinary citizens have all come together in solidarity with those who were displaced by the cyclone.

Popular make up artist and enterprenuer Ruby Lynn donated 20 blankets and sanitary pads. Derby Cheryl Spa put together cooking oil and sugar whilst Premier plus maheu company has undertaken to provide food security to the victims.

The EU delegation has released about 3.57 million USD towards relief. The cyclone ravaged houses, infrastructure and killed a lot of people with some said to be still missing. Indeed the effects of the cyclone were so dire that people were forced to take shelter under one roof with dead bodies at a Roman Catholic church in Chimanimani.

The Red Cross foundation has also been calling for people who could assist to drop off items at its centres in Avondale and Kambuzuma so that they can be ferried to the affected areas.

In spite of different political and religious affiliations, Zimbabweans have shown a united front in order to deal with the crisis. They have also managed to pull resources together despite the harsh economic environment.

Other sponsors who have joined the bandwagon include One money, Econet wireless and several churches. There has been ignited in people a spirit of Ubuntu and as the Shona proverb aptly states Kutsva kwendebvu varume vanodzimurana meaning when one man is faced with a crisis others ought to help him out.
