Stanbic applauded for refurbishing Tariro hostel.
Stanbic bank has been applauded for its community based projects in particular, the refurbishment of Tariro hostel in Harare. The hostel was used to house disadvantaged cancer patients who come from outside Harare to seek treatment at Parirenyatwa and Harare central hospital. The hostel had been closed down in 2007 owing to lack of funding.
The Cancer Association of Zimbabwe had approached Stanbic bank and requested for a refurbishment of the hostel because cancer patients from outside the capital city were struggling to find alternative accommodation when they came to Harare for treatment. Stanbic bank stepped in and revamped the place. Stanbic has been a long standing donor to the Cancer Association of Zimbabwe in terms of chemotherapy medicines and treatment.
It was all joy for cancer patients last week when the new and improved hostel opened its doors to them. Stanbic was commended for such an important commitment. Most people were full of praises for the bank which is also renowned for its quality standards and service. Cancer has become one of the most common killer diseases in the country together with HIV and AIDS. Cancer treatment is very expensive and victims resort to traditional methods of healing for failure to meet treatment costs.
