Zimbabwean based doctor awarded the Swiss human rights award.
The Swiss community has rewarded Zimbabwean based Swedish doctor Ruedi Lūthy for his humanitarian work. Lūthy has just been awarded the 2019 Swiss human rights award from the Swiss branch of the ISHR.
The doctor has been commended for his noble deeds in caring for HIV and AIDS patients at his Newlands clinic. He assists those from poor backgrounds to get medication and care. Indeed the doctor has helped over 6500 patients by providing medication for life. Prior to his work in Zimbabwe, Lūthy had cared for the terminally ill in Switzerland through his own establishment called the Zurich lighthouse. He had moved to Zimbabwe in 2003 and set up the Newlands clinic.
The ISHR commented,” With his great commitment and knowledge,Ruedi makes a special contribution to human rights because he gives hope to countless young people and their families and gives them back the right to a self determined life”. Previous recepients of the award include the Dalai Lama. The official handover of his award will be done in Bern on the 7th of December. Lūthy has been instrumental in assisting those living with the HIV virus combat the disease and live a healthy lifestyle. His immense contribution is surely commendable.
