Ammara Brown’s Interview On SABC 2

Ammara Brown is going places, the songbird is currently in South Africa where she will be taking part in a pro-humanity production called “Colour Me Human” at the Joburg Theatre from the 21st-30th of May.

Accompanied by Steve Dyer a South African jazz legend who is also involved in the production, she appeared on SABC2 this morning to talk about the show.

Steve Dyer frist heard Ammara’s voice when she was performing at HIFA last year. Ammara said she was surprised when Steve Dyer asked her to be part of the production as her roots are in afropop and the production is jazz. “I had to ask him what made you pick me and he said i just heard it and it felt right” said Ammara.

“My intention in every production is to bring out the best in a musician” said Dyer. Asked what it means for her as a Zimbabwean artist and rising star to be identified by a huge South African artist, Ammara said it’s a big honor in itself  and a great learning experience for her.

The “Colour Me Human” production hits close to home for Ammara, because of the xenophobic attacks on Zimbabweans in South Africa.

“When i listen to the song and what he’s saying..”colour me human”, it’s saying it’s not about race, it’s not about tribes, it’s not about countries, it’s about the human race”, she said.

She went on to say it it takes you right down down to the bare minimum that we are all human beings and the level of respect means a lot to her as a Zimbabwean especially now.

Ammara closed off the morning show with the soundtrack of the production, “Colour Me Human” and like always she didn’t disappoint.

Greater things are yet to be seen from Ammara with her debut album coming out in July.
