8nine Muzique: Bridging Zimbabwean Soul and South African Deep House

In a music landscape that constantly evolves, the sounds that once defined genres are now reimagined. The kick drum that hits your chest, percussion, shakers, congas, and subtle wooden clicks are sequenced in ways that create new energy. This evolution is often referred to as the “smart sound” in Deep House circles, and few artists embody it as fully as Nkosana Mpofu, better known as 8nine Muzique.
Celebrating 15 years in the industry, 8nine Muzique has quietly merged two distinct musical worlds: the raw township soul of Zimbabwe and the polished, commercial Deep House sound of South Africa. His career reflects both experience and innovation, allowing him to craft tracks that resonate on dance floors and personal listening spaces alike.
Fresh off the success of his 2025 album “Defined Elements” and the late-year EP “Deep Is Home,” he takes fans back to the origins of his career. 8nine Muzique isn’t just a DJ pressing play. He is a percussionist and a patient observer of culture, qualities that have kept him at the forefront of the scene.
His journey began in 2009 in Cowdray Park, Bulawayo, with limited resources and a computer. “Access was the ultimate gatekeeper,” he recalls. Equipment and studio time were scarce, and moments of self-doubt were frequent. Yet, constraints fueled creativity. Early experimentation shaped the unique style that defines him today.
8nine Muzique’s sound fuses emotion with rhythm. This approach balances the digital and organic elements of music production, resulting in tracks that connect physically and emotionally with listeners. While his music embraces modern Deep House structures, his influences remain unapologetically African, grounding his work in identity and culture.
Operating between Zimbabwe and South Africa gives him a rare perspective. “South Africa is the world capital of Deep House, commercialized and competitive. Zimbabwe offers raw, passionate talent. Navigating both has been an advantage,” he said. His work is strengthened by collaborations, including notable partnerships with artists like Kevin BlaQue, producing projects that are seamless and creative.
2025 was a prolific year. He released “Defined Elements,” “The Resurrector EP,” and “Deep Is Home EP,” marking a period of growth and experimentation. In 2026, he plans to continue releasing projects and expanding his collaborations within the Deep House community.
Throughout his career, 8nine Muzique has performed at prominent venues and events across Southern Africa, including Natalis Pub, Maracana, Bubble Bistro, DEEP EXPLOSION, Altitude, Gourmet Nova Sunday, and Garden of House in Bulawayo. As a seasoned artist, he mentors younger producers, emphasizing patience, consistency, and long-term growth over instant fame.
8nine Muzique’s story illustrates the power of persistence, cultural pride, and adaptation. By blending Zimbabwean roots with South African Deep House, he has created a sound that is both timeless and contemporary, continuing to shape the musical landscape with every release.
