Asaph Afrika Gears Up for Debut at Bulawayo Shutdown 9th Edition

Bulawayo-based hip-hop artist Asaph Afrika is brimming with excitement as he prepares to take the stage at the highly anticipated Bulawayo Shutdown 9th Edition on April 26.
Despite being a newcomer to the shutdown lineup, Asaph is no stranger to electrifying large crowds, having previously performed at high-profile events such as the Vic Falls Carnival, the National Arts Merit Awards, Unplugged, and Munch ‘n’ Sip.
Speaking to NewsDay Life & Style, Asaph expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming performance, emphasizing that he intends to make a strong statement.
“It is my first time performing at the Bulawayo Shutdown, but it is not my first time rocking big stages,” he said. “Fans can expect some classics, but I will also perform some new favorites like Run Byo. It’s my first big performance in a long time, so I have to make a statement.”
Asaph also highlighted his gratitude for being part of the lineup, stating that it reflects the potential for more local artists to gain recognition on major platforms.
“Well, I am always grateful for being on the lineup. I have been performing alongside South African artists since 2018. I headlined the Shoko Festival with Moonchild Sanelly, and I was with Sun-El Musician at Unplugged. I even gifted him a City of Kings hoodie,” he shared.
He emphasized that his inclusion in such events should serve as motivation for other Zimbabwean artists to aim for the big stage.
The Bulawayo Shutdown 9th Edition, set to take place at Queens Sports Ground, promises an electrifying night with a star-studded lineup of both Zimbabwean and South African artists.
South African heavyweights such as Uncle Waffles, Emtee, Zee Nxumalo, Eemoh, DJ Tira, and Nasty C will bring their energy to the stage. Meanwhile, Zimbabwean stars including Winky D, Enzo Ishall, DJ Tamuka, Oriyano, Asaph, Bazooker, Killer T, Ash T, DJ Eugy, Prince Eskhosini, Boy Nino, Mzoe 7, and Madeherbelieve will showcase local talent.
This year’s edition will mark the grand conclusion of the annual Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, promising fans an unforgettable musical experience.
