Bhila Kicks Off 2026 With New Single “Jikela” and Big Plans

After a successful 2025, highlighted by winning a Bulawayo Arts Award (BAA) for Outstanding Alternative Music, Cowdray Park-born musician Bhila is gearing up for another strong year. He opened his 2026 musical journey with the release of his new single, Jikela, an energetic Afrobeat track that introduces upcoming projects planned for the year. The song signals a fresh direction in Bhila’s sound while exploring themes of betrayal in relationships, family dynamics, workplaces, and other life situations.

For Jikela, Bhila collaborated with Melaya Beats on production, while Godwin Smalls handled mixing and mastering, delivering a polished and vibrant track. The song draws from Bhila’s personal experiences, reflecting on how trusting people too much can sometimes lead to disappointment. “Jikela is a true experience, it’s the reality of life. People change. We can all testify that we have witnessed such in different areas of life, not only in relationships. I penned this song to open people’s minds and eyes that those we trust can betray us at any given time,” Bhila explained. He added that the track encourages listeners to be cautious, as some friends only value relationships when they are beneficial to them.

Bhila premiered Jikela live during Sandra Ndebele’s highly praised “Denim on Pearls” event on January 24. Sharing the stage with Durban’s Dladla Mshunqisi, an artist he grew up admiring, was a highlight for the musician. “It was a great appreciation to perform alongside Dladla Mshunqisi, because he is one of the creatives I admired growing up. I performed Jikela to a new audience, and the reception was amazing,” Bhila said. He praised Ndebele for supporting young creatives and giving them opportunities to reach wider audiences.

With Jikela setting the tone, Bhila’s focus for 2026 is clear: delivering high-quality music and building a strong movement. He is also preparing for the Bhila Live in Concert shows, scheduled later this year across Matabeleland. The combination of new music and live performances reflects his commitment to expanding his influence and connecting more deeply with fans.

Bhila’s early success and strategic approach to 2026 suggest a year full of growth, creative output, and audience engagement. With Jikela as a powerful opener, the musician is well positioned to strengthen his presence in Zimbabwe’s music scene and beyond.
