Comedian and Musician Freddy Manjalima, aka Kapfupi, Announces He Has Quit Alcohol After Receiving Donated Car from Wicknell Chivayo

Popular Zimbabwean comedian and musician Freddy Manjalima, widely known as Kapfupi, has announced that he has quit alcohol following a recent incident involving a car donated to him by controversial tenderpreneur Wicknell Chivayo.

Last year, Chivayo gifted Kapfupi a vehicle to help support his livelihood. However, after Kapfupi lost that car, Chivayo promised to replace it with a new vehicle valued at US$9,000, along with US$3,000 intended for car insurance. This generous gesture came after Kapfupi publicly appealed for help.

The situation took a turn last week when Kapfupi reportedly arrived intoxicated at the location where he was to collect the replacement vehicle. Due to his condition, Chivayo refused to hand over the car, sparking widespread attention and concern.

In a heartfelt letter shared on social media, Kapfupi expressed his gratitude to Chivayo for the second chance and confirmed that he has remained sober since the incident. Writing in his native Shona language, he said:

“Tsamba kuna baba vangu Sir Wicknell chekutanga ndoda kutenda Mwarii neumwe mukana wavakupai… Handina kuzombobvira ndakabata doro futii.”

He thanked Chivayo for the opportunity and vowed never to consume alcohol again, acknowledging that the experience was a valuable lesson.

Kapfupi’s commitment to sobriety has been welcomed by his fans, many of whom had expressed concern about his well-being following the public episode. His openness about personal struggles and determination to change has shed light on the challenges faced by entertainers beyond the spotlight.

Wicknell Chivayo, a figure often surrounded by controversy, has shown generosity by fulfilling his promise to Kapfupi despite previous difficulties between them. The donation of the car and insurance funds is expected to play a vital role in helping Kapfupi rebuild his career and maintain his livelihood.

This story underscores themes of accountability, second chances, and personal growth. Kapfupi’s vow to stay sober marks a hopeful new chapter in his life, one that his fans are eager to support as he works to regain stability and success.
