DJ Sfiso Nominated for Outstanding Club DJ at Bulawayo Arts Awards

DJ Sfiso, born Sifiso Yolanda Sibanda, has steadily risen from playing instruments in church to energizing dance floors across Bulawayo and more recently Harare. Her efforts have earned her a nomination for Outstanding Club DJ at the Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAAs), marking a significant milestone in her career. The nomination places her alongside seasoned DJs Kotwane Hikwa, Nospa, and Mzoe, highlighting the recognition she has achieved in a relatively short time. “This is my first time being nominated. It means a lot because I love what I do, and it shows that the arts sector is noticing my craft. I never thought I’d even get here,” she said.
In a male-dominated industry, DJ Sfiso has quickly established herself as one of the few women consistently commanding nightlife spaces. She views music as more than entertainment, describing it as a cultural bridge. “Music connects people emotionally and culturally, and as a DJ, I bring different sounds, genres, and creative expressions together in one space,” she said. Her musical journey began in church, where she learned how sound could unify people. Those early lessons evolved into virtual deejaying and sound design, which now define her signature style.
DJ Sfiso has already shared stages with notable artists such as Kotwane Hikwa, DJ AshT, Nizhe De Soul, Ryan Synth, Mellow & Sleazy, and Leemckrazy, demonstrating her growing presence in Zimbabwe’s music scene. Whether or not she wins the award, DJ Sfiso is embracing the recognition. “The nomination already got me excited. I don’t know what I’d do if I win,” she said, reflecting the pride and motivation that have defined her rise in the industry.
