Durban’s DJ Tira, affectionately called “Mr Marufu” by his Zimbabwean fans, is set to headline the inaugural Chivas Festival in Filabusi this festive season. The multi-award-winning South African DJ and Afrotainment boss will perform on December 19, bringing his signature energy to what he describes as his “second home.”
DJ Tira will share the stage with local talent, including Mzoe7, Jaycee (Mr Ungayithi Vuu), Zhezhingtons, Baby Girl, Tropical Quins dance group, Bulawayo Queens, and a rotation of DJs led by DJ Sweeto. His presence marks another milestone in his long-standing connection with Zimbabwean audiences and the country’s vibrant music scene.
In an exclusive interview with Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub, DJ Tira spoke about his excitement to perform in Filabusi, his approach to music, and his enduring popularity. Despite Gqom’s competitive landscape and the rise of Amapiano across Africa, he continues to innovate, refining his sound and connecting with audiences through fresh tracks. His 2025 hit, Awungazi, exceeded expectations and reinforced his ability to deliver chart-topping music.
Reflecting on his career, DJ Tira acknowledged the significance of Zimbabwean crowds, whose enthusiasm has earned him the nickname “Marufu.” He views this continued demand as motivation to stay focused and push creative boundaries. Looking to 2026, he teased new music and opportunities to mentor upcoming DJs, aiming to expand his influence and grow the industry further.
Fans in Filabusi can expect a high-energy performance from one of South Africa’s most respected DJs, blending his Gqom expertise with collaborative moments featuring Zimbabwean talent.
