Dorcas Moyo Wins Big at 2025 Clima Africa Awards and Strengthens Her Continental Gospel Legacy

Zimbabwean gospel powerhouse Dorcas Moyo continues to make her mark on the African gospel scene after scooping two major awards at the 2025 Clima Africa Awards, held on Sunday at a hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Clima Africa Awards honour individuals and organisations driving positive change across sectors such as music, leadership, and global citizenship. Moyo now holds three Clima gongs in total after adding two more this year to the Africa Female Gospel Artist of the Year award she won in 2024.

In the 2025 edition, she walked away with the Africa Indigenous Gospel Artist of the Year award, recognising her dedication to promoting and preserving indigenous gospel sounds. She outshone a lineup of renowned continental gospel artists, including Winnie Mashaba, Janet Otieno, Chinyere Udoma, Sarah Apekeola, and Azwi Kokela.

Her second accolade, the CLIMA Africa People’s Choice Award, highlighted her strong and growing fan base both in Zimbabwe and across Africa. The public vote underscored her connection with audiences who resonate deeply with her authentic message and powerful performances.

Speaking to Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment before leaving for her UK tour, Moyo expressed gratitude for the recognition and the expanding reach of her music brand. “It’s always an unbelievable feeling to realise that you are counted among the best on the continent. Honestly, I’m highly elated to have landed the converted songs. This is a testimony that there is a cord we are striking right and it has been noticed across the continent. It is evident enough that the branding is growing and we are happy. At least we are seeing the possibility of attaining our set targets, albeit far off,” she said.

Moyo added that her success is motivating her team to aim higher. “Higher still Higher is our motto. I know for certain that my management will push for more. We agreed that we would celebrate for a nanosecond and go back to the trenches. The challenge with winning awards is that it becomes insatiable, and you always want to strive for more. As such we will strive to harness as much as possible. Even if it means a Grammy so be it,” she said.

Expressing heartfelt appreciation, she thanked her supporters at home and abroad for their unwavering belief in her journey. “I just want to thank my fellow Zimbabweans for making me believe and the awards are a dedication to them all far and wide for the confidence they instilled in me. My management, you are indispensable, my band, you shine, my family, you are my pillar, my prayer mates, you are the invisible force and my fans only God knows how to reward you. Thank you all who contribute to the success of DM Music.”

As she prepares for her UK tour, Moyo promised fans an unforgettable live experience. She is set to perform at the Worship Night gig this Saturday at the Dunstable Conference Centre, where she will debut songs from her Mugeri Tsvatu album for the first time.

Dorcas Moyo’s achievements at the Clima Africa Awards reinforce her position as one of Africa’s leading gospel voices. Her journey reflects a blend of faith, excellence, and vision, proving that Zimbabwean gospel music continues to shine on the continental stage.
