Frank Chirisa Marks Five Years in Comedy with Intimate Celebration in Bulawayo

Comedian Frank Chirisa celebrated his fifth anniversary as a stand-up comedian over the weekend in an intimate gathering held at Hillside Walk in Bulawayo. The event, attended by fellow comedians and industry colleagues, was filled with laughter, reflection, and a glimpse into Chirisa’s journey in the comedy scene.

As comedians took turns on stage to entertain the audience, Chirisa later shared his experiences with NewsDay Life & Style, describing his path as a tough but rewarding ride.

“It’s been more lows than highs. I have had my fair share of losses and mistakes, but my highs have been something great to hold on to,” he said.

Chirisa recalled challenging moments, including performances where audiences didn’t respond to his jokes, missed award opportunities, and deliberate omissions from comedy shows. Despite these setbacks, he believes they have shaped him into a stronger and more independent comedian.

“I am now able to do my own shows and create my own platforms. I even mentor my own protégés now,” he noted.

In 2023, Chirisa achieved a major milestone by hosting the biggest live comedy show in Bulawayo at the Bulawayo Theatre, a moment he described as historic. Looking ahead, he remains focused on expanding his brand internationally while continuing to build networks and bookings.

“I’m funnier and happier. Right now, I’m on the road, traveling from city to city and country to country, working on material for my upcoming national tour set for August,” he said.

He also offered words of encouragement to aspiring comedians, advising them to focus on improving their craft.

“To up-and-coming comedians, I say keep working on your material, be funny first, and things will get better.”

The event was graced by notable industry personalities, including ZiFM talk show host Khayelihle Moyo, comedians CJ Zulu, Brandon Masuku, Stixx from Masvingo, and Sindiso the Poet. Also in attendance were rappers Cuniva and Paris Knight, as well as Wilfred from AmpStreet and Vuyie from Byo Podcast.
