Hope Masike Set to Release Provocative Video from Erotic Anthology

Celebrated mbira musician Hope Masike will release a new video tomorrow based on a poem from her anthology of erotica, Ndimutsewo Zvakanaka. The video is directed by Jonathan Samkange of Dream Hous Productions and promises to blend literature, music, and visual artistry.
The poem is recited from a female perspective, mixing playful exuberance with subtle innuendo. It explores themes of intimacy, guidance, and empowerment, highlighting the journey toward attaining pleasure while celebrating feminine agency. The anthology emphasizes the reclamation of women’s bodies and sensuality, challenging historical stigmas imposed during colonial rule.
Masike’s work situates eroticism within a framework of cultural and literary decolonisation. Through her poetry and music, she addresses the fetishisation and suppression of black women’s bodies, using Shona language to intensify the narrative as the poem builds to its climactic crescendo.
Ndimutsewo Zvakanaka will launch a series of reading tours across six provinces later this year, bringing her literary and musical performances to audiences nationwide.
Hope Masike is widely regarded as one of Zimbabwe’s top mbira musicians. She is a singer, songwriter, mbira player, poet, music teacher, and art and culture administrator. She serves on the boards of the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe and the Alliance Française de Harare. With four albums, four books, and multiple collaborative projects and tours, Masike continues to champion the preservation and global promotion of mbira music while exploring the intersections of music, literature, and visual art.
