King Kandoro Returns Home for Shoko Festival 2025 Headline Performance

Award-winning Zimbabwean comedian King Kandoro, born Mukudzei Majoni, is set to make a triumphant return to the local stage with a headline performance at the 15th edition of the Shoko Festival, scheduled for September 25 to 27, 2025.

Currently based in the United Kingdom, Kandoro has been captivating audiences around the world on his ongoing international comedy tour. His homecoming performance at this milestone edition of Shoko Festival — aptly themed The Legacy XV — is one of the most anticipated moments of the year in Zimbabwe’s arts and culture scene.

“King Kandoro’s appearance at Shoko Festival 2025 marks a highly-anticipated homecoming that fans won’t want to miss as he brings his internationally-acclaimed tour back to Zimbabwe,” said festival coordinator Vera Chisvo.

As the festival celebrates its 15th anniversary, Kandoro’s inclusion as a headline act is both symbolic and strategic, reflecting the growth of Zimbabwean urban culture on the global stage. Over the years, the Shoko Festival has grown into the country’s premier platform for cutting-edge comedy, music, and spoken word.

Joining Kandoro on the lineup are some of Zimbabwe’s brightest rising stars, including 2024 Zim Hip-Hop Best Newcomer award-winner Runna Rulez, chart-topping dancehall artist Jnr Spragga — whose hit single MaRulez continues to dominate streaming platforms — and the fast-rising Zimdancehall sensation Madedido. Organisers say more big-name acts will be revealed in the coming weeks.

This year’s festival will also feature a groundbreaking international collaboration with UK-based collectives Arcadia and In Place of War. Together, they will roll out the Build The Peace project, which includes a co-designed mural by young urban artists from Zimbabwe and the UK. The artwork will be showcased at the world-famous Glastonbury Festival before making its way to Zimbabwe.

Shoko Festival 2025 will span multiple venues across Harare and Chitungwiza, concluding with the iconic free-entry Peace in the Hood show at Chitungwiza Unit L Grounds. In addition to the live performances, the festival will host the Hub UnConference on September 24 and 25, with this year’s focus on the theme Decolonise the Internet.

As King Kandoro returns to the stage where his comedic journey began, fans across Zimbabwe are eagerly counting down the days. His set at The Legacy XV promises to be more than just a performance — it will be a celebration of talent, resilience, and global recognition.
