MaWhoo Lights Up Nexus Rooftop in Bulawayo

Nexus Rooftop was alive on Friday night, buzzing with anticipation long before South African house and Amapiano sensation MaWhoo took the stage. By sunset, the venue was filled with youthful revellers, dressed for a night promising memorable music and energy.
The evening opened with local DJ Dosto, who set a steady, welcoming tone for the crowd. DJ Liz followed, gradually raising the tempo and drawing people closer to the stage, shifting the atmosphere from casual mingling to focused excitement.
Hip-hop took over next, with rapper Noluntu J delivering a spirited live set. Despite minor stage hiccups, she commanded attention, showcasing the strength of Bulawayo’s growing hip-hop scene. FFF Molfy followed, mixing local and international hits that had the crowd singing along and building momentum.
DJ Eugy then delivered a standout set, blending nostalgic classics and dance-floor favourites that sparked spontaneous dance circles and kept the rooftop energy at its peak. The crowd was fully engaged, responding to every drop and transition with excitement.
Mzoe 7 entered with his dance crew, transforming the stage with sharp choreography and seamless performance transitions. The rooftop became a performance arena, perfectly setting the tone for the evening’s main act.
When MaWhoo finally took the stage, the venue erupted. She performed hits including “Amazwe,” “Bengicela,” “Uzizwa Kanjani,” and her viral maskandi-infused anthem “Gucci.” The audience sang along to every line, creating a united energy that carried through her set. Dressed in denim shorts and a matching top, MaWhoo relied on stage presence and connection rather than theatrics, winning over the crowd despite whispers of lip syncing. After her performance, she stayed to take photos and chat with fans, showing appreciation for the warmth of the Bulawayo crowd.
The night continued with veteran DJ and 2025 Bulawayo Arts Awards nominee Nospa Chekaz, who kept the party alive into the early hours. His set included Jah Prayzah’s hit “Ruzhowa” and other favourites that kept the energy high.
By the end, Nexus Rooftop had hosted more than a show. Each performer contributed to an unforgettable experience, but MaWhoo’s presence defined the night. The following morning, she shared photos relaxing in bed, captioned: “. . . I really enjoyed Zimbabwe, in Bulawayo,” reflecting the warmth and hospitality she experienced in the city.
