MG Hkh: Bulawayo’s Rising Voice in Zimbabwean Hip-Hop

Bulawayo-born artiste Prince Peter Moyo, better known by his stage name MG Hkh, is emerging as one of Zimbabwe’s most authentic new voices in hip-hop. He blends traditional rhythms with modern trap and soul to explore themes of mental health, heartbreak and resilience.

MG Hkh began making music in 2019 while working as a mechanic. He turned to songwriting to process personal struggles and inspire Zimbabwean youth. The stage name MG Hkh reflects his roots, style and mission, creating a unique identity that keeps him grounded and visible to fans.

“When I saw the impact my music had on people, I knew I wanted to pursue it full-time,” he said. He draws inspiration from both local influences and international artistes such as Rod Wave, whose genre blending helped shape his early direction.

MG Hkh writes lyrics rooted in his upbringing and surroundings, frequently delivering messages of hope, perseverance and self-empowerment. This approach has helped him connect with a growing and diverse audience. “My ideal audience is anyone who resonates with my music and message,” he explained.

His catalogue includes recent singles such as Hard to Change, Rufu Runopedza Part 2 and Love You No More. He has collaborated with local acts including Mandala Jecha Mafia, learning the importance of communication, creativity and compromise in the process.

Looking ahead, MG Hkh plans more releases, performances at notable events and collaborations both locally and internationally. He acknowledges challenges common to emerging artistes, particularly breaking through in a crowded industry and maintaining momentum. He balances artistic goals with commercial realities by prioritising his vision while staying mindful of market demands.
