Patrick Zindoga Opens Up About Suicide Attempt and Mental Health Struggles

Stand-up comedian Patrick Zindoga has revealed that he attempted suicide last year while battling mental health challenges. The comedian credited his church and community for helping him navigate the difficult period.
Zindoga said he decided to go public about his experience to raise awareness and reduce stigma surrounding mental health issues in Zimbabwe. He described going down a dark path during his suicide attempt.
“Last November, I went through a dark time and even attempted to take my own life. Even now, people from my church and community don’t know about this. I feel so ashamed of it,” Zindoga said. He also highlighted the role of Tanya Alex, who helped him return to comedy by giving him work when no one else could. “So this show is for them,” he added.
To move away from his trauma, Zindoga will give back to his community through the Mufombi Unchained Xmas Special. The festival, scheduled for next week, is a comedy and music show featuring local talent. The event aims to address issues of faith and mental health through humour.
“This show is very personal to me, and I don’t want it to be solely about individual artists, but rather have an impact of charity and giving back,” Zindoga said. Mufombi Unchained will showcase Mufakose’s most promising artists, including Brisco, who has been making waves in Afro music. All the artists will collaborate to create a unified comedy show.
Through sharing his story and hosting the event, Zindoga hopes to inspire others to seek help and highlight the importance of community support for mental health.
