Buffalo Souljah Releases New Album “Motherland” Celebrating Zimbabwean and African Music

Award-winning South Africa-based artist Buffalo Souljah has released his seventh studio album, “Motherland.” The 18-track collection draws heavily from Zimbabwean retro music and pays tribute to legendary musicians and traditional sounds.
The album features interpolations from iconic artists, including James Chimombe, a remake of Bundu Boys’ “Simbimbino” featuring Mr Attention, and the folk-inspired track “Chinyamusasure.” Several songs carry the roots of Zimbabwean dancehall, giving listeners a blend of nostalgia and contemporary rhythms. Production was handled by PTK and Levels, ensuring a polished and authentic sound throughout.
Several tracks from “Motherland” are already gaining traction. “Vengereyi,” featuring Dobba Don, is trending on social media platforms, while “One Bedroom,” featuring South African rapper Big Zulu, Bagga, and Mr Ngamz, is performing strongly in South Africa. Another standout track, “Shungu,” is a personal narrative of Buffalo Souljah’s upbringing in Mufakose, reflecting on how his neighborhood shaped his life and career.
Buffalo Souljah explained that the album title, “Motherland,” is inspired by the global recognition African music has been receiving in recent years. He described the album as a celebration of Zimbabwean and African sounds, combining traditional melodies with modern production. He emphasized the importance of preserving musical heritage and passing it on to new generations.
The artist, who has remained relevant in both local and regional music scenes for years, urged upcoming artists to remain authentic and leverage social media for promotion. He noted that today’s digital platforms allow musicians to reach audiences without relying solely on radio or television exposure.
Buffalo Souljah’s career has spanned key moments in African music, including the P Square and DJ Waxxy era. He highlighted his pride as a Zimbabwean artist and his commitment to maintaining a presence on the global stage alongside other leading African musicians.
“Motherland” reinforces Buffalo Souljah’s reputation as a versatile artist who honors his roots while embracing contemporary sounds, providing both a homage to Zimbabwean music heritage and a guide for future generations.
