Celebrated singer and cultural ambassador Sharon Ndlovu, also known as Buhle or Ubuhle Wevanhu, is set to headline the Ubuhle Wevanhu Culture and Family Fun Day on Unity Day, December 22, at Sherwood Sports Club in Mabelreign. The all-day lifestyle and heritage showcase promises a family-oriented experience celebrating unity, culture, and entertainment.
The daytime programme, running from midday, is designed with children and families in mind. Activities include jumping castles, quad-bike rides at USD $3 per ride, traditional meals, and interactive cultural experiences. These activities aim to provide a safe and engaging environment while promoting Zimbabwean heritage.
The evening session, starting at 5pm, will feature a vibrant live music showcase. Expected performers include Elder Potato, Mitchel Mvundura, Luta King, Nduna and The Ubuntu Classic Band, Ishy X, Empress Helgah, Zivanhaka Mbira and Marimba Band, with Buhle closing the night with a live performance.
Speaking ahead of the event, Buhle, who leads UBuhle Holdings, said the fun day is a celebration of togetherness, heritage, and family values. “This event promises to be an unforgettable experience, bringing together families and communities to celebrate the beauty of humanity,” she said. “We believe events like these are essential for strengthening family units and preserving our cultural heritage.”
The line-up reflects the rich diversity of Zimbabwean music, including opera-inspired vocals, conscious music, and traditional mbira and marimba sounds. Beyond music, the event will feature fine art exhibitions, with pieces available for purchase. Children can enjoy photo opportunities with Mama Christmas, while DJ Destiny will keep the festive atmosphere alive throughout the day.
Attendees are encouraged to wear traditional attire, celebrating Zimbabwe’s cultural roots. Buhle, a prolific composer and singer, is known for hits such as Ngiholo, Arise Africa, Zimbabwe, Mamela, Full of Grace, Musango, and No to Drugs. She regularly performs with over five live bands in Harare, offering both original material and popular cover versions.
In partnership with Assfa Academy and Theatre in the Park, Ubuhle Wevanhu aims to spark community-based cultural events that promote unity, positive living, and the preservation of Ubuntu values. Buhle will also feature on the upcoming song No to Hard Drugs by Liber & Transit Crew featuring Mono Mukundu, reinforcing messages of social responsibility and positive living.
Buhle invites everyone to attend and celebrate Zimbabwe’s cultural heritage. “Let’s come together to make this event a memorable one and set the tone for a festive season filled with love, unity, and positivity,” she said.
