Wicknell Chivayo Gifts Jah Prayzah’s Wife a 2024 Land Rover Defender in Latest Show of Support

Flamboyant Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo has once again captured national attention, this time gifting a brand-new 2024 Land Rover Defender 2.4 D to Jah Prayzah’s wife as part of the musician’s birthday celebrations. The lavish gesture, delivered on Friday, adds to the growing list of luxury vehicles Chivayo has handed over to the award-winning artist and his close circle.

This is not the first time Chivayo has demonstrated his deep appreciation for Jah Prayzah and his family. Their relationship dates back to 2017, when the businessman made headlines by purchasing the first copy of the album Kutonga Kwaro for US$10,000. He then added another US$2,000 in cash specifically for Jah Prayzah’s wife, a gesture many saw as recognition of the supportive role she plays behind the scenes.

The Land Rover Defender joins an already impressive collection of gifts from Chivayo. Over the past year, he has significantly stepped up his support. In one of the most talked-about acts of generosity, he handed Jah Prayzah a brand-new Mercedes Benz S500, valued at over US$180,000. Around the same time, he gifted Toyota Aqua vehicles not only to Jah Prayzah himself but also to his son and four of his female dancers — underlining his commitment to rewarding loyalty and talent across the musician’s team.

In May, shortly after Jah Prayzah released his 14th studio album, Chivayo took things even further by presenting the Murder hitmaker with a Range Rover Autobiography and a US$150,000 cash gift. The luxury SUV came with a personalised number plate emblazoned with “Wagwizi,” Jah Prayzah’s nickname among fans and friends.

Chivayo has been vocal about his admiration for Jah Prayzah’s music and the values it represents. In a social media post following the latest Land Rover gift, he penned a heartfelt tribute:
“Over the years, we have seen great musicians whose voices have defined generations… but there has only been one musician whose music is not just about a good sound, but has a very deep spiritual meaning and connection. From humble beginnings in Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe, a young man has risen to become a global symbol of musical excellence… JAH PRAYZAH.”

He went on to specifically honour Jah Prayzah’s wife, affectionately referred to as Mai Mukombe, for her role in supporting the artist’s success:
“As men, we often overlook the women who stand firmly behind us… As I celebrate the birthday of my favourite musician of all time, I take this opportunity to say thank you to Mai Mukombe, for taking good care of our national music legend and icon.”

Chivayo’s ever-expanding generosity toward Zimbabwean creatives, especially Jah Prayzah, has sparked both admiration and speculation. Many observers believe the businessman’s prominent support of the artist is more than just personal admiration — it is also seen as a reflection of Jah Prayzah’s perceived alignment with the country’s political establishment.

Nevertheless, for Jah Prayzah’s fans and the entertainment industry at large, Chivayo’s consistent backing underscores the growing influence of private benefactors in Zimbabwe’s creative sector.
