Chipo the Gift Season 4 Returns to ZTV with Powerful Message and Stellar Storytelling

Zimbabwe’s favourite prime-time drama Chipo the Gift is back on ZTV for its highly anticipated fourth season—and it’s more powerful than ever. Premiering last Monday, the new season brings a gripping, emotionally-charged narrative that confronts real-life societal challenges head-on.

Tackling complex issues like child marriages, gender-based violence (GBV), and drug abuse, Season 4 marks a dramatic turning point for the series. At the centre of it all is Chipo, the resilient protagonist whose journey from victim to changemaker is set to inspire viewers across the nation.

According to scriptwriter Virginia Jekanyika, this season is all about transformation. “From the beginning, Chipo’s arc was always meant to move her from a place of pain to one of purpose,” she explained. “With GBV cases on the rise—especially femicide and child marriage—we wanted Chipo to model action as opposed to just survival. It was incredibly difficult to write, but we knew it had to be done with care and honour.”

Under the skilled direction of Nakai Tsuro, the series strikes a powerful balance between raw emotion and cinematic beauty. Tsuro, whose background in cinematography and editing has earned her industry-wide acclaim, said this season pushed her team to new creative heights.

“We used a lot of close-ups and long shots to linger on emotions,” Tsuro shared. “I also encouraged the actors to draw from personal or known experiences to bring authenticity to their roles. Even in moments of sadness, we find humour—like when Baba Chipo tries to steal soil from a rival’s homestead at night. It’s funny, but also deeply human.”

Producer Daves Guzha stressed that collaboration was key to bringing the fourth season to life. The show partnered with organisations such as the Pamoja Project and Young Africa, which provided more than just financial backing—they contributed to shaping the impact-driven narrative.

“These partnerships aren’t just about funding,” Guzha said. “They’re about creating impact. We’re measuring success not just in viewership—though we average 3.2 million viewers per episode—but also in social media conversations, YouTube feedback, and direct community engagement.”

Lead actress Gamuchirai Mukwakwami continues to deliver a standout performance as Chipo, infusing the role with depth and authenticity. Her portrayal resonates strongly with audiences, especially in scenes dealing with drug and substance abuse—a topic Mukwakwami feels passionately about.

“Playing Chipo has changed how I see people,” she said. “I now find myself counselling others, helping where I can. It’s no longer just a role—it’s a mission.”

Chipo the Gift Season 4 is not just television—it’s a cultural moment, sparking dialogue and driving awareness. As the season unfolds over the coming weeks, millions across Zimbabwe and beyond will tune in, not just for entertainment, but for a story that reflects their struggles, their resilience, and their hope.
