Cyclone Chido Weakens, Ensuring a Smooth Festive Season for Event Organizers and Artists
Tropical Cyclone Chido, which had raised concerns of disrupting the festive season in Zimbabwe, has weakened into a tropical depression, much to the relief of event organizers, artists, and party-goers.
The cyclone, which made landfall earlier this week, caused moderate rainfall in certain parts of the country but significantly lost its intensity as it moved inland. This downgrade has reassured those in the entertainment sector who were gearing up for the lucrative holiday season.
Indoor Events Gain Popularity
Promoters like Partson “Chipaz” Chimbodza and Benjamin Nyandoro of Jive Zimbabwe have strategically chosen indoor venues for their events to avoid disruptions caused by unpredictable weather.
Chipaz, speaking about the upcoming Unity Day celebrations, emphasized the importance of preparedness:
“We opted for enclosed venues like City Sports Centre and Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex to ensure fans’ safety. We constantly monitor weather conditions and pray for favorable outcomes.”
The Unity Day events will include performances by Alick Macheso, Holy Ten, Killer T, and others, ensuring fans enjoy the festive spirit in a secure environment.
Packed Schedules Despite Weather Concerns
Promoter Chau Nedi, popularly known as “Boss Chau,” is proceeding with a packed lineup from December 22 to January 1 at Jongwe Corner venues in Harare and Chinhoyi. With tents and additional shelter in place, he remains committed to providing safe and enjoyable experiences for attendees.
“Fans are our top priority,” said Chau. “Whether it’s winter or the rainy season, we ensure their comfort and safety.”
Notable events include Freeman and Killer T’s New Year’s Eve performance at Jongwe Corner Chinhoyi and Jah Prayzah’s New Year’s Day show at Jongwe Corner Harare.
Artists and Promoters Stay Optimistic
Alick Macheso, who has a series of performances lined up, reassured fans of his commitment to their safety. His team is working closely with venue owners to provide tents and adequate security.
Peter Moyo, another artist with multiple events scheduled, added:
“We are prepared for any weather scenario and leave everything in God’s hands. We invite fans to celebrate the season with us.”
Despite earlier fears, Cyclone Chido’s weakening has allowed Zimbabwe’s entertainment sector to carry on with minimal disruptions. Fans can look forward to a series of exciting performances and events as the festive season unfolds.
