Flamenkhoi Wows Harare with Launch of Album Dancing in the Dust

South African theatrical dance group Flamenkhoi delivered a flawless performance at the launch of their music album, Dancing in the Dust, at Reps Theatre in Harare on Saturday. The show highlighted a culturally blended Spanish flamenco and African Soul experience, presented through dance and songs including Kuele, Reunion, Fuego, Moro, Zambo, Lefatsi, Bonwa, Ancestral Blues, Aire, Andale, Pula, Oyeele, Agua, and Kholoi, structured into four scenes: Fire, Earth, Air, and Water.

Spanish ambassador to Zimbabwe, Lourdes Sangroniz, introduced Flamenkhoi, noting the performance’s unique cultural fusion. She highlighted the deep, often overlooked artistic connections between Africa and Spain, particularly South Africa, and praised the group for showcasing this heritage through dance, song, and innovative visual presentation. Sangroniz added that the performance coincided with Spain’s National Day, making it a heartfelt contribution to the celebrations and a bridge between cultures.

The Flamenkhoi cast, including dancers Rosana Maya, Isaac “Pinky” Xu Ramagole, Komani Hara, Cari Juane Wessels, and Leela-Lind Devar, alongside musicians Micah Myles and Lebogang Lechela and vocalist Nobuhle Ngcobo (Pretty N), shared the origins and essence of their fusion. Co-founded by Pinky and Maya, the project combines flamenco with African traditional rhythms, reflecting themes of unity, nature, and shared cultural roots.

The debut album Dancing in the Dust, available on all streaming platforms, features tracks inspired by elemental forces such as fire (fuego), wind (aire), and water (agua), incorporating influences from Indian to Khoisan traditions. Each member balances individual careers but pursues this collective vision to break cultural barriers and celebrate global connection.

Rosana Maya, speaking on behalf of the group, said their world tour promises emotionally rich, visually striking, and deeply soulful performances. The album and live show aim to deliver passion, chemistry, and artistry, creating a lasting impression on audiences.

Flamenkhoi’s Dancing in the Dust positions the group as a leading force in cultural fusion, blending African and Spanish artistry to celebrate shared human heritage.
