“Holy Ten Didn’t Make Me”: Saintfloew Discusses Rivalry and His Battle with Drug Addiction
In a revealing interview on DJ Ollah’s podcast, Zimbabwean rapper Saintfloew opened up about his tumultuous relationship with fellow artist Holy Ten and his personal struggles with drug addiction. Contrary to public belief, Saintfloew asserted that he was not discovered by Holy Ten; rather, he had approached him first, looking to collaborate.
A Complicated Rivalry
Saintfloew has faced ongoing rivalry with Holy Ten, who has accused him of turning against the very person who once helped him. During the interview, Saintfloew expressed his surprise at Holy Ten’s claims of having launched his career. “Holy Ten didn’t make me. He is not someone who found me hungry. No. I was the one who looked for him before he looked for me,” Saintfloew clarified. He described how he brought his work to Holy Ten, proposing collaborations that would elevate both their careers.
The rapper reflected on how their initial partnership soured, particularly as Holy Ten’s interest in him grew only after recognizing his talent. “He was doing features, and I said if you can put your verse on that item, it would be 100 percent flames. However, when I sent it, it was already 100 percent flames. He then came looking for me after he realized that I had a good thing going,” he noted.
Confronting Addiction
In addition to discussing his rivalry with Holy Ten, Saintfloew opened up about his struggles with drug addiction. He candidly shared how his drug use strained his relationship with his mother, leading to feelings of alienation. “I couldn’t even get along with my mother anymore. She would tell me that you’re no longer the child that I raised… Ever since I started doing drugs, I didn’t feel like I was myself anymore,” he admitted.
Saintfloew attributed his drug use to the challenging environment in which he grew up. However, he revealed a turning point in his life when he entered a rehabilitation center in South Africa. He emphasized the importance of rehab, stating, “Rehab is helpful. It’s a new thing, a place where you go to when you’re being removed from places that make you attracted to drugs.” Through group discussions and support from other recovering addicts, he was able to confront the underlying issues that led him to substance abuse.
The Path Forward
As he reflects on his journey, Saintfloew is committed to his recovery and artistic expression, emphasizing that he is more than the struggles he has faced. His story highlights the importance of addressing mental health and addiction, particularly within the high-pressure world of the music industry.
Saintfloew’s revelations about his rivalry with Holy Ten and his path to recovery serve as a reminder that even in the face of challenges, resilience and self-discovery are possible. The rapper’s candidness about his journey offers hope to others grappling with similar issues, showing that it is never too late to seek help and find one’s true self.
