Isizwe Sabatsha Eyes Victory at Upcoming Chibuku Dance Competition in Bulawayo

Bulawayo-based dance ensemble Isizwe Sabatsha is setting its sights on victory as it prepares to compete in the provincial Chibuku dance competition scheduled to take place next week at the Manor Hotel in Bulawayo.

Founded in 2022 by passionate dance leader Lungelo Ncube, Isizwe Sabatsha has consistently made its mark in the competition, growing stronger with each edition. After finishing second in their debut appearance and securing third place last year, the group is more determined than ever to clinch the top prize in 2025.

“We have been participating in this competition since 2022, and we have managed to do our best, but we have failed to win the crown. At this year’s edition, we aim for the crown and we have been preparing for the day as we are positive we will bring it home,” said Ncube.

The group has treated each year’s experience as a learning curve, building resilience and refining its choreography and stage presence.

“In all the editions we have participated, we gained experience which we believe will make us excel this year. In last year’s edition, we took third position and we learnt that we should stay focused all the time as everything happens for a reason,’’ he added.

Beyond the competition, Ncube emphasized the broader importance of the Chibuku event in the cultural and creative landscape of Zimbabwe. He described it as more than a contest—it’s a platform that unites artists, fosters healthy rivalry, and strengthens industry ties.

“This competition has been helping us as it strengthens and creates bonds which are great for good relations, hence making us develop our entertainment industry for the growth of our nation,’’ he said.

Isizwe Sabatsha’s mission also includes youth empowerment. The group is opening its doors to young people across Bulawayo, offering them a constructive outlet that steers them away from crime and substance abuse, while nurturing talent that can transform their lives.

“We believe this year is our year, and God will guide us in the competition as we have been preparing for it. Winning this competition will make us stronger and make us a well-known brand,” Ncube said.

As the countdown begins, all eyes are on Isizwe Sabatsha to see whether their hard work, dedication, and vision will finally earn them the Chibuku crown—and inspire a new wave of young performers in Zimbabwe’s dance scene.
