Tsitsi Masiyiwa Launches RemitHope to Transform African Giving and Diaspora Remittances

Renowned philanthropist Tsitsi Masiyiwa has unveiled RemitHope, an innovative platform designed to revolutionize African philanthropy by merging diaspora remittances with community giving. The goal: to create sustainable, African-led solutions that tackle the continent’s most pressing development challenges.

In her announcement, Tsitsi emphasized that RemitHope is not just about raising funds—it’s about empowering a movement. “We are not just mobilizing resources,” she wrote on LinkedIn. “We are unlocking the power of Africans at home and abroad to create unstoppable, lasting change across our continent.”

RemitHope’s first campaign has already demonstrated this potential. Following a devastating fire on July 13 that destroyed the Mount Selinda Children’s Home in Chipinge, Zimbabwe, RemitHope launched a fundraising drive to rebuild the facility and support the 22 children left without shelter. In just a few days, the platform raised $22,622—nearly half of its $50,000 target—highlighting the power of fast, collective action through diaspora engagement.

What sets RemitHope apart is its impact-first approach and unique matching model. For every dollar contributed by the diaspora toward designated projects, Tsitsi and her team match the amount, doubling the impact and promoting trust through transparency and measurable outcomes.

Tsitsi Masiyiwa is no newcomer to transformative philanthropy. As co-founder of the Higherlife Foundation and Delta Philanthropies, she has helped support over 250,000 children, with initiatives spanning health, education, disaster relief, and women’s empowerment. She has co-invested in the $50 million Africa Gender Initiative alongside Co-Impact and Melinda French Gates, and in 2025, she was named one of TIME100’s most influential philanthropists.

Now, through RemitHope, she’s launching what she calls her “decade of impact,” a vision rooted in faith, community, and self-reliance. “Five years ago, when the Lord ignited this vision in my heart, I knew we were onto something simple, yet deeply impactful,” she shared. “With faith guiding us, I believe we can raise $50 million over the next five years—and perhaps even more.”

As traditional aid from the Global North declines, Tsitsi’s approach focuses on tapping into the billions in remittance inflows sent annually by Africans abroad. Instead of short-term assistance, RemitHope channels those funds into long-term, community-driven development projects, setting a new standard for inclusive philanthropy.

“This is where I’ll invest my energy for the next decade—the best way to spend my 60s,” she said.
