Brito earmarked for Warriors coaching job
The ZIFA Nomalisation Committee has earmarked Highlanders coach Baltemar José de Oliveira Brito for the Warriors coaching post on an interim basis.
In a letter to Bosso dated September 19, 2023, the Normalisation Committee is seeking permission to appoint their gaffer as the Zimbabwe senior men’s national football team boss until next year June, and Highlanders are yet to give their position on the matter.
“As a club we can confirm that we have the letter form the ZIFA Normalisation Committee in our hands that seeks our permission for them to appoint our coach Brito to the Warriors coaching post on an interim basis. However, the club is yet to meet to discuss on the issue, but up until now there is no decision that has been reached,” said the Highlanders Marketing and Communications Manager Nozibelo Maphosa.
With the Zimbabwe Warriors back on the international radar following the lifting of the FIFA suspension in July this year, the team is now set to take part in the upcoming CHAN qualifiers as well as the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, hence the need to appoint a coach to guide the charges.
Brito has been doing well at Highlanders since taking over the reigns last year, and at one point guiding the team to an impressive 19-match unbeaten run in the country’s domestic topflight.
Amahlolanyama currently occupy second spot on the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League table and are well on course to challenge for the title and put a fullstop to the club’s 18-year wait for a silverware.
Given the status quo and the pedigree of the Portuguese mentor, it will be no surprise if Bosso turns the tables on log leaders Ngezi Platinum Stars and fellow title contenders Dynamos and Manica Diamonds among others.
