CAF and UCT Celebrate Second Edition of Football Management Executive Programme

The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF), in collaboration with the University of Cape Town (UCT), has successfully concluded the second edition of the CAF Football Management Executive Programme. The milestone was marked with an official graduation ceremony at UCT on Friday, 30 January. Now in its second year, the programme has become a cornerstone of CAF’s long-term strategy to strengthen football governance across Africa. By partnering with top institutions of higher learning, CAF aims to equip its Member Associations with advanced administrative skills and effective governance frameworks.
Over six months, 30 participants from CAF’s six Zonal Unions underwent an intensive curriculum designed to address the evolving challenges of modern football administration. The programme covered critical areas such as administration, strategic planning, sponsorship and commercial development, communication, and organizational leadership. CAF assembled a distinguished faculty of international experts and industry leaders to guide the sessions, ensuring participants gained practical insights and hands-on experience. The programme’s structure and content emphasize preparing administrators to navigate complex demands while maintaining high standards of governance.
Sarah Mukuna, CAF Director of Member Associations, highlighted the strategic importance of the programme for African football. She explained that strong leadership and sound governance are essential for building credible, competitive, and sustainable football institutions. “The CAF Football Management Executive Programme is CAF’s strategic investment in the future of African football. Through this initiative, we are empowering our Member Associations with the skills, knowledge, and values required to meet the highest global standards,” Mukuna said. The statement reinforces CAF’s commitment to professionalizing football management across the continent.
The executive programme remains a vital component of CAF’s broader capacity-building objectives. By fostering competent and ethical leadership, CAF seeks to create a well-governed football ecosystem that supports the sport’s growth in all regions. The initiative not only enhances administrative capabilities but also strengthens institutional frameworks, ensuring African football can compete effectively on a global scale. Graduates of the programme are expected to return to their associations equipped with the knowledge to implement best practices in management, governance, and strategic development.
CAF’s partnership with UCT and the success of the second edition of the programme reflect the organization’s focus on long-term institutional development. By investing in education, training, and professional growth, CAF continues to set benchmarks for governance and leadership in African football. This initiative demonstrates that the future of African football is not only about talent on the pitch but also about building strong, well-managed institutions capable of sustaining growth and excellence.
