Chimwemwe powers Nkana to victory
Zimbabwe international defender Takudzwa Chimwemwe was the difference when Nkana FC edged CAF Confederation Cup campaigners Red Arrows 1-0 in a Zambian Super League clash at the Nkana Stadium yesterday.
The win was the first for Aba Red this season after suffering a 3-2 loss at the hands of Nkwazi in a five-goal thriller in their 2021/22 competition opener on the 12th of September.
Following several attempts by both sides to break the dead lock, Nkana won a free kick in the second half and Chimwemwe stepped up to the effort to give his side the much-needed victory.
Apart from the well taken dead ball, the Warriors defender who continues to rise in form, once again showed his masterclass which earned him a Man of the Match award and walked away K2000 richer.
“I feel very happy to have helped the team register its first win of the season. I have been practicing to take free kicks and I give credit to my coaches for taking me through the techniques. My aim is to continue doing well on and off the field, and also try to score more goals and help my team win some silverware,” said a visibly ecstatic Chimwemwe.
The result propelled the Beston Chambeshi tutored outfit to 11th position three places up the ladder with three points from two matches.
Nkana last lost to Red Arrows in 2016 and yesterday’s victory was their seventh against the Airmen in their last 10 meetings.
