Eagles Claim Convincing Five-Wicket Win Over Mountaineers in Pro50 Championship

Eagles secured a comprehensive five-wicket victory over Mountaineers in their Pro50 Championship clash at Harare Sports Club on Wednesday, reaching the target with 17.2 overs to spare.

Sent in to bat first, Mountaineers struggled against Eagles’ disciplined bowling and were bowled out for 166 in 39.5 overs. Only three batters reached double figures, with Timycen Maruma top-scoring with 60 off 85 balls and captain Wellington Masakadza contributing 43. The duo staged a 99-run fifth-wicket partnership, rescuing the innings from 46 for four, but the momentum collapsed after Masakadza was bowled by Wessly Madhevere. Faraz Akram led the Eagles’ bowling attack with outstanding figures of 4 for 27. Kundai Matigimu claimed 2 for 11, while Marshal Takodza took 1 for 0, ensuring Mountaineers were restricted to a modest total.

Eagles began their chase cautiously and briefly wobbled at 43 for three following the dismissal of Tinashe Kamunhukamwe for 21. Kudzai Maunze and Craig Ervine then combined for an 85-run partnership, stabilizing the innings and shifting control to the hosts. Ervine scored 34 off 43 balls before falling to Masakadza, and Wessly Madhevere was dismissed shortly after for 14.

Maunze played a commanding innings, remaining unbeaten on 60 from 70 balls, and received support from Tony Munyonga, who finished 14 not out. Eagles reached 167 for five in 32.4 overs to complete a solid victory.

The win strengthens Eagles’ position in the Pro50 Championship as the tournament moves into its next round, highlighting their balanced bowling attack and depth in batting. Their performance underlines their credentials as strong contenders for the title this season.
