Econet Victoria Falls Marathon 2025 Poised to Break Records with Over 5,000 Runners from 31 Countries

The 2025 Econet Victoria Falls Marathon is on track to set a new participation record, with organisers confirming that over 5,000 runners from 31 countries are expected to take part in this year’s edition. The event is scheduled for July 6 and is already drawing unprecedented global interest.

Race director Brent Williamson says registration numbers are outpacing previous years, a reflection of the marathon’s growing international appeal and its status as one of Africa’s top destination races.

“Since opening registration in March, we’ve already filled more than two-thirds of our entry slots,” Williamson revealed. “The response has been phenomenal, and it reflects the international recognition this event now commands. We’re urging all prospective runners to secure their spots now — once we hit our capacity, that’s it. We have to cap entries to ensure a world-class experience that meets our safety and logistical standards.”

Last year’s event attracted runners from all corners of the globe, including countries such as Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Kenya, South Africa, the United States, and the United Kingdom. This year promises an even more diverse turnout as the marathon cements its place on the global race calendar.

The Econet Victoria Falls Marathon offers a unique blend of athletic challenge and natural wonder. Participants can choose from four race categories: the 42.195km full marathon, a 21.0975km half marathon, a 21km team relay (with each runner covering 10.5km), and a 7km fun run suitable for all ages and fitness levels.

The course weaves through the heart of Victoria Falls town, crosses the iconic Victoria Falls Bridge into Zambia and back, and meanders along the scenic Zambezi Drive. Runners are treated to sweeping views of the mighty waterfall and may spot wildlife such as elephants and impalas as they race through parts of the surrounding National Park.

To enhance safety and improve the overall runner experience, organisers have introduced minor route adjustments for this year’s race.

“In previous years, we encountered some congestion due to runners crossing paths on the same route,” Williamson explained. “This year, we’ve made adjustments to ensure a smoother flow and enhance the overall experience.”

Beyond the race itself, the Econet Victoria Falls Marathon continues to champion corporate social investment and environmental sustainability. The event supports several community-based initiatives, including anti-poaching efforts, conservation projects, and local youth development.

Among the key charity partners are the Vic Falls Anti-Poaching Unit, Greenline Africa Trust, Pristine Society Vic Falls, and Ele-Collection. These organisations play a vital role in protecting the area’s wildlife and natural beauty — values that are closely aligned with the marathon’s mission.

Endorsed by World Athletics and the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), and hosted in collaboration with the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe, the Econet Victoria Falls Marathon exemplifies how sport can drive tourism, foster unity, and uplift local communities.

As anticipation builds, runners from around the world are encouraged to register early and prepare for an unforgettable race experience in one of the world’s most spectacular natural settings.
