Econet Victoria Falls Marathon Returns on July 6, 2025, Promising an Unforgettable Running Experience

The iconic Econet Victoria Falls Marathon is set to return on July 6, 2025, bringing the thrill of long-distance running to one of Africa’s most breathtaking natural wonders. Now in its 18th year, this annual event has grown into a major highlight on the continent’s sporting calendar, attracting elite athletes, amateur runners, wellness enthusiasts, families, and adventure seekers from all over the world.
This year’s marathon is expected to inject a significant boost into the local tourism and hospitality sector as more than 5,000 participants are anticipated to take part. Econet Group’s CEO, Dr Douglas Mboweni, assured that preparations are well underway to deliver a world-class experience.
“The Econet Victoria Falls Marathon has become a very important event in African sport and among wellness enthusiasts. We are excited to once again welcome runners from all walks of life – both elite athletes chasing records and families and friends out to enjoy a fun run in one of the world’s most scenic settings,” Dr Mboweni said.
More than just a race, Dr Mboweni emphasized that the marathon embodies Econet’s core values of wellness, family, and community. “Running across the Victoria Falls Bridge, with the mist of the mighty Falls rising all around you, is something breathtaking. It celebrates the spirit of Africa – of resilience and community – and it displays the wonder of God’s creation.”
Themed ‘Road2Victory – Asambeni Malegends,’ the marathon caters to runners of all abilities with a dynamic lineup of events. Participants can challenge themselves in the grueling 42.2km full marathon, compete in the 21.1km half marathon, or enjoy a relaxed pace in the popular 7.5km family fun run.
Dr Mboweni highlighted Econet’s long-standing commitment to promoting health, fitness, and community well-being. “As a proudly Zimbabwean company, we are committed to initiatives that uplift communities and promote tourism in our country. This event places a global spotlight on Zimbabwe and gives international visitors a taste of our warm hospitality, breathtaking scenery, and pristine natural beauty.”
Ahead of the marathon, Econet’s Deputy CEO, Mr Roy Chimanikire, confirmed that key logistics are being finalized. Organizers are collaborating closely with local authorities, emergency services, and tourism stakeholders to ensure the event runs smoothly and safely.
“We are working with all stakeholders to make sure we deliver an enjoyable, safe, and smooth event. We have also deployed new technologies for registration and race tracking to enhance the overall experience for participants and spectators alike,” said Mr Chimanikire.
The marathon weekend is famously one of the busiest on Victoria Falls’ calendar, driving a positive economic impact on the local community. “Hotels are already fully booked, restaurants will be bustling, and small businesses—from transport operators to curio sellers—will see a significant upswing. It is indeed the kind of positive economic impact we are proud to support,” Mr Chimanikire added.
With its blend of world-class athletic competition and stunning natural beauty, the Econet Victoria Falls Marathon 2025 promises to be an unforgettable event that celebrates sport, community, and Zimbabwe’s rich heritage. Whether you’re chasing a personal best or simply soaking in the incredible atmosphere, July 6 is a date for runners and adventure lovers alike to mark on their calendars.
