First Capital Bank Celebrates Fourth Year of Sponsorship for Zimbabwe Junior Golf Open

First Capital Bank, one of Zimbabwe’s leading financial institutions, has expressed immense satisfaction with the growth of the annual Zimbabwe Junior Golf Open, which they are sponsoring for the fourth consecutive year. The prestigious tournament officially kicked off this morning at its traditional home, the Borrowdale Brooke Golf Estate, drawing young golfers from around the world.

This year, the event has attracted at least 60 young golfers from eight different countries, including France, China, and several African nations. The tournament is known for its competitive atmosphere, and past editions have been dominated by golfers from South Africa. However, this year, Zimbabwean golf prodigy Keegan Shutt, who claimed victory in the inaugural event in 2022, is aiming to reclaim the title in what will be his final appearance as a junior golfer.

The competition is fierce in both the boys’ and girls’ categories, and participants are eager to showcase their skills on the global stage. The First Capital Bank Zimbabwe Junior Open continues to be an important platform for nurturing young talent, providing aspiring golfers with an opportunity to compete at an international level.

During the official opening and flag-raising ceremony, First Capital Bank’s CEO, Tapera Mushoriwa, expressed his enthusiasm for the tournament’s growth.

“It is an honour to welcome you all to the opening of the 2025 Zimbabwe Junior Golf Open Tournament, the fourth edition since 2022. As we raise the flag today, we celebrate not just the start of another tournament but the continuation of a powerful legacy that has begun with belief. Belief in youth, belief in potential, and at First Capital we say belief comes first,” said Mushoriwa.

He went on to emphasize the vision behind the sponsorship, noting that the partnership with the Zimbabwe Junior Golf Association and the Borrowdale Brooke Golf Club was aimed at creating a platform for emerging young talent, similar to the prestigious FBC Zimbabwe Open Golf but tailored for juniors. What started as a bold idea has now evolved into a highly anticipated international event, attracting top young golfers from across Africa and beyond.

Mushoriwa highlighted the impressive growth of the tournament, stating, “This year we are proud to host 60 players from 10 different countries aged between 13 and 19. Our field is full, the talent is undeniable, and the energy is electric. As the title sponsor, First Capital takes responsibility with deep pride and commitment.”

He further emphasized that the sponsorship goes beyond just funding. “Our sponsorship is not just about funding, it’s about a vision, about nurturing, about walking the journey of belief with every young golfer here. We are proud to be the pioneer in this space, proud to say we were first because we are First Capital, and we are proud to believe in the golfers today. To us, every swing taken on the course is more than a shot, it’s a declaration of possibilities,” Mushoriwa said.

Hillary Kaseke, the tournament director for the First Capital Bank Zimbabwe Junior Open, also took the opportunity to thank the bank for its ongoing support. “This is the 2025 First Capital Bank Zimbabwe Junior Open, the fourth edition, and I would like to express my gratitude to First Capital Bank for continuously sponsoring this tournament and supporting this event. On behalf of the organizing team, I hope that we will have a good three days of competitive golf, and don’t forget to enjoy the game as well,” Kaseke remarked.

Countries represented in this year’s event include China, France, Ghana, Malawi, South Africa, Zambia, Kenya, and Zimbabwe, with young golfers showcasing their talents and striving for excellence in a dynamic and competitive environment.

As the tournament continues, the First Capital Bank Zimbabwe Junior Golf Open stands as a testament to the bank’s commitment to fostering youth development and supporting the growth of golf in Zimbabwe. With each passing year, the event continues to shine a spotlight on emerging young talent, reinforcing the importance of belief, hard work, and dedication to the game.
