Fortunate Chidzivo Secures Spot at World Athletics Championships in Tokyo

Zimbabwean marathon runner Fortunate Chidzivo has earned her place at the prestigious World Athletics Championships set for September 13 to 21 in Tokyo, Japan. The seasoned athlete, known for her endurance and consistency, will represent the nation after securing a World Athletics universality slot.

Chidzivo boasts a personal best time of 2 hours, 33 minutes, and 30 seconds in the marathon. This latest achievement sees her joining an elite group of Zimbabwean athletes heading to the global event.

She becomes the sixth athlete from Zimbabwe to qualify for the championships, joining fellow long-distance runners Isaac Mpofu and Tendai Zimuto, as well as sprinters Tapiwanashe Makarawu, Makanakaishe Charamba, and Vimbayi Maisvorewa.

Chidzivo is no stranger to international competition. She has previously represented Zimbabwe at the World Athletics Championships, gaining valuable experience and showcasing her dedication to the sport.

Her qualification offers hope for a strong Zimbabwean showing at this year’s championships, with the team now featuring both long-distance and sprint talent.

As preparations intensify, Chidzivo is expected to continue her training with focus and determination as she readies herself to compete against the world’s best athletes on the streets of Tokyo.
