Gabriel Nyoni criticizes Zim football leadership

Former Highlanders and Caps united forward Gabriel Nyoni has heavily criticized the absence of competent leadership in Zimbabwean football.

Commenting on his official twitter page Nyoni pointed to the huge salary disparities between Zimbabwe and South Africa pointing to the need for a transformation.

Nyoni wrote, “Zim professional soccer player minimum salary R3000. SA professional soccer player salary R25 000. This life, no balance. We need new leaders.”

South Africa has over the years emerged as a path for salvation with many Zimbabwean footballers eager to cross the Limpopo where clubs offer more lucrative contracts than back home. The huge disparity in terms of income has been a major cause for concern with footballers often frustrated by their failure to make anything meaningful out of their careers.

The failure to offer footballers a meaningful source of livelihood has often been attributed to the failure of football leaders to transform football into a lucrative business.

Nyoni’s sentiments come at a time former Gunners and Young Warriors captain Terrence Malunga is organising a football forum which will bring together various football minds that will discuss what needs to be done in order to ensure football is approached as a business.
